If you’ve been approved for Social Security Disability benefits in Tennessee, you’re likely wondering: When will I receive my payments? The payment schedule is based on several factors, including the type of benefit you receive (SSDI or SSI) and your birth date.

Understanding the SSA’s payment calendar helps you plan your monthly finances and avoid unnecessary stress.
Find out if you qualify for SSDI benefits. Pre-qualify in 60 seconds for up to $4,018 per month and 12 months back pay.
Please answer a few questions to help us determine your eligibility.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) Payment Schedule
If you are receiving SSDI benefits, your payment date depends on your birth date, not the state you live in. The SSA uses the following schedule nationwide, including Tennessee:
- Birthdate on the 1st–10th → Payment on the second Wednesday of each month
- Birthdate on the 11th–20th → Payment on the third Wednesday
- Birthdate on the 21st–31st → Payment on the fourth Wednesday
Example: If your birthday is on July 14, you’ll receive your SSDI payment on the third Wednesday of each month.
Note: If your payment date falls on a federal holiday, you’ll usually receive it the day before.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Payment Schedule
If you're approved for SSI, which is based on financial need rather than work history, your payment always arrives on the 1st of the month.
- If the 1st is a weekend or holiday, your payment will be sent on the last business day of the previous month.
Example: If the 1st falls on a Sunday, expect your SSI deposit on Friday.
How Are Payments Sent?
Most disability payments in Tennessee are delivered through:
- Direct Deposit to your bank account
- Direct Express Debit Card (if you don’t have a bank account)
- Paper Checks (less common but still available)
Tip: Setting up Direct Deposit ensures the fastest and most secure delivery of your funds.
When Will I Get My First Payment?
After your SSDI or SSI claim is approved, you may wait 1–2 months before receiving your first payment. In some cases, back pay may also be included in a lump sum or installment payments.
